alex ewald

Who: Alex Ewald

Year Graduated: 2009

Where are you now?
I’m a senior at the University of Oklahoma studying print journalism with a Spanish minor and Honors.

What did you do in high school?
In high school, I was at the Hi for all four years; freshman year staff writer, sophomore entertainment editor, junior special sections editor, senior editor-in-chief. I was president of the JSA chapter from sophomore-senior year, which I’d just joined before having to restart from the seniors. I was in marching band all four years and symphonic band junior-senior years playing saxophone. I was tutorial rep sophomore and senior years for the CFD.

What are you doing?
I worked in Student Media (at the OU student newspaper) for 2 1/2 years and interned at the Oklahoma Gazette in OKC two summers ago and the Muskogee Phoenix last summer, and I’m interning at an online entertainment news site next spring called I also was vice president of external affairs of my fraternity this calendar year until last week. I stay busy!

What do you enjoy?
Hanging out with my best friends, reading an amazing story online, finding a good deal for clothes or music. My ideal night is sitting back with a glass of whiskey and water, dimming my lights and watching about a dozen episodes of my favorite shows on Netflix/listening to a good album on Spotify. Right now I’m on Doctor Who and The Walking Dead, and the White Stripes and the Avett Brothers.

What surprised you about life after high school?
How little I know anything. College is definitely a time when you find out who you are and about the world.

Words of wisdom for current Bearcats?
Going back to my last answer — find out what you love while you still have the time, including your interests, friends, career paths, hobbies, and don’t count out traveling or going somewhere new. You never know what you might find out there that you might love!
