Year Graduated: 2011
Where are you now?
I am a sophomore at Tufts University in Boston, MA.
What do you enjoy?
I am currently president of the Tufts Amalgamates, a coed a cappella group. We recently won the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for Best Album and Best Song! We’re in the stage of releasing our next album. I’ve also been singing in a jazz ensemble since my freshman year. I love traveling and learning about new research, opportunities, etc in my field of study (economic development). I also enjoy constantly thinking about how amazing San Francisco is and how much I love (and miss) it!
What did you do in high school?
At SMHS I was Student Body President and Editor in Chief of the Hi during my senior year. Loved it so much!
What are you doing now?
Now I’m working on my majors (International Relations and Economics) and trying to figure out something to do this summer. I might work at the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh for a month or so. While studying at Tufts I’ve become super interested in access to financial services for the poor- things like microcredit, insurance, savings groups… I’m currently working on organizing a Boston-wide symposium on social entrepreneurship and active citizenship that will take place at Tufts in April.
What surprised you about life after high school?
How much you notice yourself grow and change through college. Especially as a thinker. There is something to learn from everyone you meet (in every situation, not just college).
Words of Wisdom for current Bearcats?
Enjoy high school. San Mateo is such an incredible, special place to be at and I have the fondest memories of it. Grades are very important though. Don’t sell yourself short because if you are trying to get into the college of your choice, you don’t want to have to worry about what you could have done differently when it’s already too late.
