Life After High School: Shuo Yang

Who: Shuo Yang

Year Graduated: 2003

Where are you now?
San Mateo, CA

What do you enjoy?
I enjoy the freedom of being young and alive in a time when there are so many opportunities to pursue my dreams the way I want to pursue them.  I am currently working on a start up and I really enjoy working with a team of like minded, awesome people.  Being able to push myself everyday and work with friends is a real blessing.

What did you do in high school?
I think I spent High School not appreciating how young I was.  Time moves so quickly and all of a sudden you have bills and money, and a bunch of boring real world stuff to worry about.  Now I have to stretch really carefully before I run or I might hurt myself, and I find complaining about old man stuff.

What are you doing now?
I work at a start up.  It’s a nice job where I get to interact with a lot of different people and work on projects I care about.  The work is hard, but I enjoy being able to plan and execute my own vision and have the freedom to push things the way I want.  I’m glad I’m doing something where I can really take pride in my work.

What surprised you about life after high school?
Life gets complicated really fast and it becomes harder and harder to find even small bastions of time to stop and take a moment to look around.

Words of Wisdom for current Bearcats?
Cherish friends and family – these relationships are some of the few bright shining spots in life.
